Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapy is a form of treatment for individuals diagnosed with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) which targets behaviors in particular settings to help develop social and coping skills. ABA is a skill-based treatment. Therapists develop treatment plans (plan of care) specifically based on observations of their client and their triggers. The spectrum is very broad. Initiation, interaction, socialization, and reaction vary amongst individuals and environments. Customization of treatment is key. The goal for all ABA Therapy is to increase desired behaviors and to develop independence. Many families find that ABA helps mitigate reactions and to develop routines which aid in producing a cohesive environment.
We begin our onboarding process by having a consultation with the client's guardian(s). We like to know where you are in your treatment process and how we can be of service to assist with obtaining any of the necessary documentation for care.
All insurance companies require that provides attain authorization for services before beginning treatment. In order to commence the authorization process, we must first receive: complete client intake form, medical diagnosis, letter of medical necessity and a copy of the insurance card.
Behavior Assessment is the first for creating a treatment plan. Board Certified Behavior Analysis (BCBAs) conduct a series of test to determine the client's developmental stages and create a treatment plan based on the needs of the individual.
Treatment plans detail target behavior, treatment goals and objectives. BCBAs access motor, functional, and social skills by using approved testing tools and repeating each test in several trials to produce charts that display the client's current functionality and target levels. Goals are set for both the client and their guardian(s).
Once the plan of care is created and approved by the client's insurance company; implementation of the plan takes place. Depending on the level of severity, most clients are permitted between 15 - 30 therapy hours per week. Majority of these hours are conducted by a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) with the BCBA conducting observation hours. All parent training hours are conducted by the BCBA.
Parent Training is intended to assist parents in continuing the behaviors learned during therapy. This training emphasizes positive reinforcement and communication. Parent involvement is key to continue development and independence. We encourage families to communicate all concerns relating to our client's development therefore improvements can be made.
